Greece
When you think of Greece, What do you think of? Do you you think of the beautiful architecture, amazing foods, wines, and historical sites? I bet you imagine yourself sitting at an enchanting little coffee house, smelling all of the local pasteries as you watch the locals walking by. Does the term "Refugee" ever cross your mind?
The reality is that Greece is becoming a holding ground for many refugees from all over the world. More than 2,000,000 of Greece's 11,000,000 residents are refugees and ethnic minorities, most of them living in the greater Athens area. They include Albanians, Poles, Iraqis, Afghans, Iranians,Ukrainians, Kenyans,Sudanes, and Ethiopians.
Helping Hands with International Team's missionaries work with Greek churches as well as international churches and ethnic fellowships to reach these people. Helping Hands is involved in evangelism and discipleship. They have locked arms with:
The Athens Refugee Center (ARC). The ARC is a ministry facility taking up one floor (450 sq. meters) of a 7-story building in a centrally located area. A variety of ministries take place within the walls of the ARC, including:
Showers and laundry ministry
Hygiene and medical
The Jesus film showing in multi-languages.
Persian Tea House
Greek and English Classes
Tutoring for children
Seekers Bible Studies
Food and Clothing Distribution
We are so excited to announce that this December, My team and I from Glad Tidings will be joining them! Please pray for us as we all prepare. The Saints that stay and pray are just as important as those who go into the field. We greatly appreciate your support in this. May lives be changed! If you would like to get involved, or would like to donate funds to this amazing cause, Please contact Pam Franks ( Glad Tidings Mission Cordinator) at 402.391.6515. Please mention the Greece mission upon calling.
Leviticus 19:33-34 (NKJV)
33 ‘And if a stranger dwells with you in your land, you shall not mistreat him. 34 The stranger who dwells among you shall be to you as one born among you, and you shall love him as yourself; for you were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.
